Margie Ruddick prepared a master plan for Marlboro College that removed the internalized tangle of roads pathways and parking, recreating a soft, green, pedestrian friendly internal campus. The new landscape built on the vernacular of Vermont farmsteads, focusing on an expanded pond an community lawn.
The master plan included a strategy for reducing the amount of lawn, creating new meadow, and enlarging forested areas.
The client was particularly concerned that the master plan ensure that the homespun quality of the Marlboro College campus be retained. We used graphics such as the hand-drawn plan to reinforce the sense of Marlboro as a farm campus woven through with natural landscapes.
