The site is the degraded riverfront along the remnants of the Pocantico River, whose main course was diverted to create the GM plant. The site is comprised of disturbed wetland, upland and forest; it is surrounded by the Metro North rail line to the west, Devries Park and residential development to the north, Philipsburg Manor to the east, and the future Sleepy Hollow Common park space to the south.
We are currently working with the Village of Sleepy Hollow to both restore this degraded waterfront as a healthy estuarine habitat, but also to provide access to the public for passive enjoyment, active recreation, and environmental education. This project will be a critical stepping stone toward linking the waterfront and upland urban landscape through a cohesive public open space network.
